New boys’ school opens at Aldine ISD

HOUSTON – Aldine ISD welcomed students Wednesday morning to his new all-boys school, Impact Leadership Academy.

“This is Aldine ISD’s first all-boys school, created to provide boys with choices and opportunities,” said principal Jonathan Kegler.

This year they start with the 1st, 2nd and 6th grades for a total of 375 students.

“It’s designed for boys starting lineup, we have 45 minutes for lunch and recess every day,” Kegler said.

They have also selected courses specifically for boys, such as an entrepreneurship and leadership course.

“We’re going to teach our boys how to start their own business so they start with the end in mind, what do you want to be when you grow up,” Kegler said.

The school partners with Prairie View A&M University throughout the year, which includes visits to the university campus.

It’s all about giving young men opportunities and setting them up for success.

“It’s a unique campus. It’s different. Most all-boys schools start in middle school and go through high school. We start when they are young. We catch them and train them when they’re young,” Kegler said.

The school has invited 100 men to welcome the boys to school on Wednesday morning to cheer them on as they begin the new school year.

The school also organizes a pep rally to excite students.
