Abilene police summoned for a call just after 6 a.m. Sunday found a man dead in a hotel room in northeast Abilene.

Police said he was shot.

A woman in the room was also shot and taken to hospital. She was listed in critical condition.

No arrests were made, but police said there was no danger to the public.

The victim has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

Police were dispatched to the 3500 block of West Lake Road, or FM 600, just past its intersection with Interstate 20. Police did not specify the hotel, but four are located in this area.

Police said the occupants of the room apparently knew each other and were not from Abilene.

The investigation is continuing.

If ruled a homicide, it would be Abilene’s third of the year.

On February 1, Paul John Delacruz, 35, of Abilene, was shot dead in an apartment complex in the 300 block of North Mockingbird Lane. Two other people were injured.

On January 20, Samuel Shawn Berry was shot dead in the 200 block of Miss Ellie Lane in far south Abilene. A woman was also shot and a man stabbed in what police said was a domestic disturbance.
