Six Flags Magic Mountain renames thrill ride to make way for Wonder Woman roller coaster – Orange County Register

The imminent arrival of the new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage roller coaster has forced Six Flags Magic Mountain to come up with another DC Comics superhero name for an old Wonder Woman-themed thrill ride.

The Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth ride at Magic Mountain has been renamed and renamed the Teen Titans Turbo Spin, according to Six Flags officials.

Magic Mountain is only big enough for one Wonder Woman ride and that means the thrill ride named after the comic book superhero needed a new moniker to avoid confusion with a new mountain coming this summer to the amusement park in Valencia.

The innovative new single-rail roller coaster Wonder Woman Flight of Courage, on which riders will ride a monorail track, will open this summer in the DC Universe Magic Mountain area.

The newly redesigned and renamed Teen Titans Turbo Spin centripetal force ride built in 1974 has gone by several names in Magic Mountain history, including Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth, Electric Rainbow, Turbo, and several Gearworks variants.

The Teen Titans are a DC Comics superhero team led by Batman’s sidekick Robin, which includes Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy.

Teen Titans was a longtime option in DC Comics’ naming carousel – beating out The Joker, Green Lantern, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Cyborg, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Aquaman, Supergirl, Bizarro, Dark Knight and Mr. .Freeze .

Magic Mountain has used many of DC Comics’ most popular characters for ride names in the past, including Superman, Batman, Riddler, Lex Luthor, and the Justice League.

The new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage single-rail roller coaster coming to Magic Mountain this summer will be billed as the tallest and longest ride of its kind in the world. The pandemic-delayed roller coaster was originally scheduled to open in 2021.

Magic Mountain has already removed the Tidal Wave water ride from 1989 and the Flash: Speed Force crawler-style ride from 1974 to make way for the new Wonder Woman coaster.

The addition of the new Wonder Woman Coaster to the DC Universe area of the park will also include a new restaurant and bar as well as a retail store.

The new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage coaster will reach a top speed of 58 mph after ascending a 131-foot-high lift hill and descending an 87-degree first drop. The four 12-passenger trains on the ride will travel on a 3,300-foot-long track featuring three inversions – a crow dip, a weightless roll and a 180-degree stall.

Rocky Mountain Construction’s Raptor Single Track uses an innovative new roller coaster design from the Idaho-based ride manufacturer. Passengers on an RMC single-rail coaster sit in a line-style train with their legs straddling an I-beam track.

The RMC roller coaster track layout for Wonder Woman Flight of Courage is set to extend from the DC Universe area of the park to Metropolis Plaza near the Justice League 3-D Dark Ride. The new ride will be flanked by a pair of DC Comics: Riddler’s Revenge and Batman: The Ride themed coasters.

The new Magic Mountain coaster will reuse the station from the old Green Lantern: First Flight, an Intamin ZacSpin coaster that was removed and moved to Montreal’s La Ronde amusement park.

The Greek-inspired entrance and queue for Flight of Courage will be themed around the hidden island of Themyscira, the fictional island of Wonder Woman. The queue will showcase Wonder Woman’s legacy and life while explaining how she got her superpowers.

Magic Mountain has already begun vertical construction of the new single rail coaster.
