St. Paul’s School has named Dr. Edward Trusty Jr. acting principal of the boys‘ school, President Jeff Huang announced in a letter today.

The Baltimore County private school has launched a search committee with the goal of finding a permanent replacement to start in the spring, but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has complicated the search, Huang wrote.

Trusty will fill the interim position for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years.

A Baltimore native and Gilman School alumnus, Trusty most recently served as acting principal of The Kinkaid School in Houston. He has held various administrative positions at the school since 2014.

Prior to that, he served as the elementary school principal at Calvert School in Baltimore. Previously, he was on the Gilman faculty for 13 years, teaching fourth grade and coaching college football.

“The opportunity to join the St. Paul community while returning home to family and friends and recommitting ourselves to service in the Baltimore community is, indeed, a blessing to my family and me,” said Trusty said in a statement. “I am honored and look forward to proudly wearing blue and gold.”

Huang praised Trusty’s work at Kinkaid, saying he helped staff professional development, successfully completed a fundraising campaign and added initiatives focused on inclusivity.

And he noted that Trusty has increased enrollment and updated the curriculum at Calvert School.

After graduating from Gilman, Trusty earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Virginia and a doctorate in education from Morgan State University.

While at St. Paul’s, Trusty will be tasked with transitioning the upper school to a new building and developing a We Are St. Paul campaign.

In his letter, Huang thanked outgoing director David Faus for “seven years of strong and consistent leadership.”

The school will soon announce events — virtual and in-person — to introduce families to Trusty and his wife, Dynell.
