LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5/Gray News) – A man allegedly shot his cousin while they were “playing fights” in a hotel room on the Las Vegas Strip, according to an arrest report.
Suspect Billy Hemsley faces murder and attempted murder charges following the shooting at the Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip late Thursday night.
KVVU reports, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received the first call regarding the shooting on the 8th floor of the Mirage at approximately 8:40 p.m. on August 4, according to an arrest report.
Arriving officers found Acturius Dwayne Milner, on the floor of the room, with “numerous” apparent gunshot wounds, the LVMPD said.
Milner has not yet been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Two other victims reportedly suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, police said. One of the victims identified the suspect as a cousin, Hemsley.
The victim said his father, Milner, booked a room at the Mirage. Some family members went downstairs to play and returned to the room to eat, according to the arrest report. Milner and Hemsley were in the room talking and drinking beers, the victim said.
“They started to play fight, but the fight game escalated when [Hemsley] pulled out a silver or chrome handgun and fired several times at [Milner,]says the arrest report. Then Hemsley turned to the other family members and shot them, according to the report.
Another family member called police around 12:58 a.m. on August 5 and said Hemsley told them he had shot his cousin and daughter, according to the arrest report.
Hemsley allegedly threatened to kill her and she feared he would kill her mother, according to the report.
Police located Hemsley around 1:30 a.m. at a bus stop near Nellis and Twain, when he was arrested, the report said.
Hemsley allegedly had a gun in his belt when he was taken into custody.
Hemsley spoke to UMC police “while being treated for injuries sustained during his arrest,” the report said.
The suspect admitted to shooting his cousin, according to the arrest report, telling police he had “lost the shit” when his cousin strangled him, while they were playing fight.
He left the scene on foot and took a bus away from the Las Vegas Strip, according to the report.
Hemsley’s first court appearance is scheduled for Saturday morning.
On January 1, 2003, Hemsley allegedly tried to shoot the same cousin after an altercation.
According to an LVMPD arrest report, Hemsley was charged with shooting Milner twice in the buttocks following a drunken altercation. Police said three children were also present during the incident.
Hemsley’s girlfriend at the time told police that Milner and Hemsley argued all day, with Milner even calling Hemsley bad words. The girlfriend said Hemsley was also upset that Milner made sexual advances to her, according to the arrest report.
Hemsley allegedly told Milner, “If you call my daughter’s name one more time, I’m going to shoot you,” the arrest report said. Milner called the girlfriend again and she heard a gunshot and then several gunshots, according to the arrest report.
According to court records, Hemsley pleaded guilty to pointing a gun at someone and discharging a weapon. He was sentenced to six months in prison.
On November 29, 2012, Hemsley also allegedly stabbed a girlfriend and stole her car, according to an arrest report from LVMPD. The incident reportedly happened just after 7am when police were called to a domestic dispute.
Hemsley’s girlfriend, a different woman than the one named in the 2003 incident, said they had been dating for about a year. The girlfriend said Hemsley was drunk and had used crack cocaine, according to the arrest report.
Hemsley reportedly said, “I’m going to kill you!” while holding a large butcher style knife with a 5-6 inch blade. Hemsley allegedly beat the woman to the ground.
The woman told police she tried to defend herself and Hemsley said ‘this is what happens in jail when you do bad things’ before stabbing her multiple times in the abdomen, according to the report .
Hemsley then took the keys to the woman’s car and drove off, according to the arrest report. Hemsley was eventually caught in the victim’s vehicle running a red light near Fremont and Charleston.
During a police interview, Hemsley admitted to stealing the victim’s car, but did not mention the stabbing, according to the report.
According to court records, Hemsley pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to between five and 13 years in prison, court records revealed.
