A student at Otago Boys High School in Dunedin was reportedly beaten repeatedly during a brutal attack by other students.

Three students who repeatedly kicked and punched a fellow student at Otago Boys High School have been expelled following disciplinary proceedings.

Police are investigating after the student was badly beaten in the brutal assault.

Footage of the attack on the student was posted on social media and widely circulated, sparking outrage among parents.

Acting Otago Boys rector Andrew King said the school was assisting the police investigation into the incident and investigating who shared the video.

“[The school] is working with New Zealand online safety organization Netsafe to remove the video from social media and limit further harm from its distribution,” King said.

The boy was allegedly cornered in the school toilet by two other students, one of whom punched him in the face after he asked them why they attacked him.

An assailant reportedly smiled at the camera, before the boy was punched again.

In an apparent effort to stop the attack, he allegedly took out his wallet to offer it to his attackers, before they repeatedly punched him.

According to the Otago Daily Times, the 67-second clip showed two students cornering the victim, before hitting him repeatedly.

The victim reportedly asked, “Why are you doing this? before being hit.

Another student refused to join the attack, saying he had no problem with the boy.

The victim allegedly told the assailants that she did not want to fight, and his head was repeatedly banged against a wall as he was shot, before being kicked in the leg as he tried to walk away.

The assailants allegedly said, “You’re not going to fuck the snitch, aye?” Aren’t you gonna f…ing snitch?.”

The attack was reported to the police.

“Police are aware of and received a report of a serious assault at Otago Boys High School on June 15 and are investigating,” a police spokesperson said.

King said the incident highlighted the need for strict regulations regarding the use of digital devices.

“Students are aware of the school’s zero tolerance for unacceptable behavior in the school environment and its policies on bullying and digital safety.

“The school will continue to respond with full authority to protect the emotional and physical safety of students,” he said.

Earlier this year, an additional digital security policy was introduced to prohibit the use of phones during the school day.

The student who was assaulted has returned to school where he is being supported by counselors and other students, King said.

“Over the past year, the school has increased its counseling staff, implemented an improved registration system to allow more staff to move through the school and introduced an anonymous online reporting system. “
